Overview

The rule information page gives you a complete, read-only view of a compliance rule’s configuration alongside a preview of recent alert activity. This is useful when you need to understand exactly what a rule monitors, verify its scope, or review which alerts it has triggered.

The page is divided into two sections: the rule’s configuration on the left (settings, target, source, name, and description) and an alert preview panel on the right showing alerts from the past 30 days.

This guide explains how to access the rule information page and interpret the details displayed.

Before You Begin

Before viewing rule information, make sure you have:

  • At least one compliance rule created for the selected organization
  • Access to the Compliance Alerts dashboard

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Open a Rule’s Information Page

  1. Navigate to Compliance Alerts from the Safeguard main menu
  2. Click the Rules tab (selected by default)
  3. Find the rule you want to inspect
  4. Click the icon in the Actions column for that rule
  5. Click View Rule

What you’ll see:

The rule information page opens with a two-column layout. The left side displays the rule’s configuration details. The right side shows an alert preview panel.

Step 2: Review the Rule Configuration (Left Side)

The left column displays the following sections:

Name and Description

The rule’s name and optional description appear at the top.

Settings

This section shows the Product categories and individual settings included in the rule. Each category is displayed as an expandable section with a count of selected settings (e.g., “Organization — 12 settings”).

Expand any category to see the specific settings being monitored.TargetThis section displays the entity types included in the rule and how they were selected:

  • Organization-level monitoring (if enabled)
  • Templates: selection and count
  • Networks: selection and count
  • Devices: selection and count

Source

This section shows the administrator filter applied to the rule:

  • “All administrators” — all administrators are monitored
  • “Specific admin(s)” — lists the selected administrators
  • “Any admin except” — lists the excluded administrators
Important: All fields on the rule information page are read-only. Compliance rules cannot be edited after creation to preserve audit integrity. If you need to modify a rule, use the Duplicate action to create a copy with updated parameters.

Step 3: Review the Alert Preview (Right Side)

The right column shows alerts triggered by this rule over the past 30 days. Each alert entry includes:

Field Description
Date/Time When the alert was triggered
Modified Setting The specific setting that changed
Target Entity The entity where the change occurred
Admin(s) The administrator(s) identified as co-authors

Click View All at the top of the panel to navigate to the Alerts tab, pre-filtered for this rule.

What you’ll see:
If the rule has not triggered any alerts in the past 30 days, the panel displays an empty state message.

Helpful tip: Use the alert preview to quickly assess whether a rule is generating the expected volume and type of alerts. A rule with no alerts may indicate that the monitored settings haven’t changed, or that the target and source filters are too narrow.

Common Questions

Q: Can I edit a rule from the information page?
A: No. Rules are locked after creation. To make changes, use the Duplicate action from the Actions menu on the dashboard, then modify the copy. See Duplicating a Compliance Rule.

Q: What does the alert preview show if the rule has been paused?
A: The alert preview still displays historical alerts from when the rule was active.

Q: Can I see alerts older than 30 days?
A: The alert preview on the rule information page shows the past 30 days only. To view the full alert history, click View All to go to the Alerts tab.
