Overview

If you have hundreds of different networks, manually searching for a specific device to see where it's connected could be a time consuming affair.

The Boundless Monitoring tool makes that simple by aggregating all of that information on one single screen. This immediately provides a clearer view over your network, which lets you speed up your troubleshooting.

Prerequisites

  • Initial setup
    Before using the Boundless Monitoring tool, you must have first previously setup your Boundless account and synchronized the Boundless Platform with your Meraki organization.

Using Boundless Monitoring

Retrieving all client and device information from your Meraki organization with Boundless Monitoring is fast and simple.

You just need to log in to the Boundless Platform, go to the Network Management Dashboard, and tap on MONITORING (on the left side bar).

This will open the Client Analytics Dashboard. If you want to access the Device Monitoring Dashboard, you can select it from the navigation bar at the top.

Client Analytics Dashboard

The Client Analytics Dashboard provides an overview all of the client devices that you have connected to your network.

You can customize your page view by adding or removing columns or setting filters and timespans. This will display only the information you need to see at a glance.

1 | Set up your customized view

To set up your customized dashboard, you can tap on Select column.

This will open a menu in which you can select the information you want to display on your screen.

2 | Use the search bar to find Client Devices

You can use the search bar to filter client devices by MAC address, IP address, manufacturer, and any other criteria the tool collects.

3 | Add filters to find Client Devices

Alternatively, you can choose to add filters to simplify the search.
You can add one or more filters at the same time.

Choose from the following criteria:

  • Network
  • Network Tag
  • Device Tag
  • Switch Port
  • VLAN
  • SSID

4 | Select a timespan to narrow down the results

For more refined results, you can also specify a timespan. For that, click on the Time Period button that appears right next to the search bar.

You can choose between:

  • Last hour
  • Last 24h
  • Last week
  • Last 30 days
  • Lifetime

5 | Access general and history data

Get access to advanced data from your client devices:

  • General data
  • Events
  • Traffic history
  • Usage history
  • Latency history

6 | Exporting your data

You can export the entire list to CSV and use the data externally. To do that, you just need to click on the CSV button that appears on the right side of the screen.

Device Monitoring Dashboard

The Device Monitoring Dashboard aggregates all of your hardware devices in one single screen.

Similarly to the Client Analytics Dashboard, you can use the search bar to quickly search devices across networks. Moreover, you can edit device information data, as well as change available configuration settings.

1 | Use the search bar to find Devices

You can use the search bar to filter devices by name, type, network, MAC address, model, tag, and other criteria the tool collects.

2 | Reconfigure and reboot your device

Click on each device to get access to the General Data panel.

From this panel, you can add more information to your device and implement configuration changes:

  • Change your device's name
    Edit general data:
    - Device address
    - Tags
    - Notes
  • Add or remove the device from a network
  • Reboot the device

3 | Get access to historical performance data

Click on each device to get access to additional uplink and health information (latency, uptime and downtime, uplink time, etc.)

This way, the Boundless Monitoring tool gives you an enhanced visibility of what's happening globally throughout your organization, and allows you to troubleshoot much faster.
